I understand how to train your beagle to hunt for the most part. But can you go into more detail on how to start them as a puppy I've seen your video but just want a little more detail.
One of the best tried and true methods is time in the bush. I find early morning good but generally in the late summer evening works best. I tend to leave the bell off my pups when working on getting them started bc less noise is better at times.
I generally let the dog go, he/she may leave and come back several times, but if they are gone longer than normal stay in that area. That is generally a good sign they found something scent wise. I will often walk around through the bush and look for a fresh lead or kick at some thick brush to see if I can get a rabbit to jump. If you are lucky you may drive him right at your dog. If not just call the dog over to you and give him some direction to where the rabbit went. Chances are the first time he/she starts it will be on and off and maybe sound like uncertain barks but give it time and a few rabbits like this and you will be on your way!
What is a good design to build your dog a dog house and where do you get the supplies.
What would be a good shock collar for beginners like me to use?
only beagles can hunt rabbits?
Can you explain the buckshot jones, cranks chicken, and the caddy beagle bloodlines to me and how the dogs hunt.
How do you choose a puppy from a breeder? Is there any method you use to pick a puppy that you think will be the better dog in the end?
I look at the pedigree. I mean the paper is only paper, but if you do your research and have a look at the blood 3 to 4 generations back you should see familiar blood showing up through out. If that blood is known to have produced good dogs that is a good tool to base from.
Also, if you know the breeder you are thinking about buying from it is a good idea to ask to see the Dam and Sire run. This will give you a good idea as to what the pups will have in them. I look at the pups and see which ones show interest in sniffing around (sniffing anything, to me that shows interest and a good basis for their hunt). I also look for the dog that tends to show independence. the physical things to look for well that's just a matter of preference; 13" 15" blue tick, red tick, tri-colour, etc. but you should look at the AKC/CKC standards so to understand the general build that is desired.
Can you go step by step on training your dogs to come to you when called?

When hunting rabbits with beagles. Is a 300 acres bush big enough? In some of your videos, your dogs chase the rabbit for awhile. What the average chase distance?

I am writing from Newfoundland, Canada. We have primarily snowshoe hare here on the island with a very localized population of Arctic hare. How do you find trial dogs with regards to hunting hare? compared to gun dogs? Generally we run anywhere from solo to 4 dogs here on hares, do you have a preferred pack size?

What is the best shotgun gauge to use, what choke size, and best number shot for the shells
I have a question. I am currently training my 4 month old beagle. I don't have an abundant amount of cottontails that I can site train him own. I was wondering if there is a particular type of tame rabbit that I could use to train him on such as a san juan but I am not for sure where I can buy them in Texas. I have read that you can use tame rabbits, just don't know the breed of rabbit to use other than a san juan. I am trying to trap a cottontail but haven't had much luck. He is currently training on the pelt that I got from shooting a cottontail but I believe he needs to actually see one and learn to go after it. Thanks in advance for any tips
