Columbus Day Weekend - 2014
October 12, 2014
During the Columbus Day Weekend, we decided to take our pack to a location close to home. Within the first five minutes of the hunt we had our first rabbit running. The rabbit took the dogs on one quick loop, then holed into an old junk pile. Unfortunately while digging at the rabbit, Louie cut his front forearm all the way down to the meat. I discovered the cut shortly after we ran our second rabbit and called the Animal Hospital right then and there. Luckily, we were able to get Louie's cut looked at immediately and he received 4 staples. Since we had plenty of day left and we were close to some of our hunting areas, we put Louie in the dog box and we continued with the other dogs. During this time, we were able to chase 8 more rabbits, 3 of which we were able to kill. A total of 10 rabbits were chased that day, 3 were killed and all the rest holed up. Louie has been making a great recovery, but will probably be out for another week.
